The NIO ES6 (known as the EL6 in some European markets due to trademark issues with Audi) is a smart, all-electric, mid-size luxury SUV designed to carry five passengers. It combines robust performance and a comfortable, high-tech interior with NIO’s signature battery-swapping technology.
Performance and Drivetrain
The ES6 is equipped with an intelligent dual-motor all-wheel-drive system as standard, providing both high performance and efficiency.
- Total Power Output: The system delivers a combined peak power of 360 kW (around 483-490 hp) and a maximum torque of 700 Nm. (Earlier performance versions offered up to 400 kW power).
- Motors: It uniquely combines a 150 kW induction motor in the front and a 210 kW permanent magnet motor at the rear, using silicon carbide power modules for improved efficiency.
- Acceleration: The SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 4.5 seconds.
- Top Speed: The top speed is electronically limited to 200 km/h (124 mph).
Battery and Range
The ES6 is compatible with NIO’s battery swap stations and comes with different battery options that can be purchased outright or subscribed to via the Battery as a Service (BaaS) model.
- 75 kWh Battery: Offers a CLTC range of approximately 500-510 km (around 406 km WLTP range in Europe).
- 100 kWh Battery: Offers a CLTC range of approximately 625-650 km (around 529 km WLTP range in Europe).
- 150 kWh Battery (Semi-Solid State): This ultra-long-range option is available as a flexible upgrade, offering a claimed CLTC range of up to 930 km (over 620 miles).
Interior and Technology
The cabin is spacious and features premium, sustainable materials and advanced technology.
- Seating: It is a 5-seater mid-size SUV. The seats are highly adjustable and feature multi-layer comfort systems, with options for heating, ventilation, and massage functions for passengers.
- Digital Cockpit: The vehicle runs on NIO’s latest digital system, Banyan 2.0.0, and includes a Head-up Display (HUD) and large central screen.
- Assisted Driving: The ES6 is equipped with the NIO Aquila Super Sensing system, which includes 33 high-performance sensors such as LiDAR, radars, and high-resolution cameras, all powered by the NIO Adam Super Computing platform (four NVIDIA Drive Orin X chips) for advanced driver-assistance features.
Charging and Swapping
The ES6 supports traditional charging methods (AC and DC) and NIO’s automated Power Swap Stations, which can swap a depleted battery for a fully charged one in about 3 to 5 minutes. DC fast charging from 10% to 80% typically takes around 30-40 minutes depending on the battery size.
