The Denza D9 is a large, premium seven-seater multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) produced by Denza, the luxury brand under BYD Auto. It is a highly popular model in China and is designed to offer a luxurious and comfortable experience, often compared to high-end rivals like the Toyota Alphard.
It is available in two power types: a pure electric vehicle (EV) built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV, known as DM-i) built on the DM-i platform.
Key Features and Technology
- Luxurious Interior: The cabin is designed with a focus on comfort and luxury. It features seven seats in a 2+2+3 configuration, often with Nappa leather upholstery. The second-row captain’s chairs are a major highlight, offering extensive electric adjustments (up to 10-way), footrests, heating, ventilation, and a 10-point massage function. A 170mm wide walkway provides easy access to the third row, which also offers ample legroom.
- Advanced Technology: The D9 includes a 15.6-inch central infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Higher trims may add a head-up display and screens for rear passengers, creating a connected multi-screen experience. A built-in compressor refrigerator (with heating and cooling functions) is located between the front seats and accessible to the second row.
Powertrain Options: The PHEV version uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with electric motors, offering a combined range of over 1,000 km. The EV model uses BYD’s Blade Battery technology and an 8-in-1 electric motor system, available in front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations. - Ride and Safety: The D9 is equipped with the DiSus-C intelligent damping body control system, an adaptive suspension technology that adjusts damping in real-time to ensure a smooth and stable ride. Safety is a priority, with high-strength steel making up a significant portion of the body and up to nine airbags, including side curtain airbags spanning all three rows.
- Driver Assistance: It comes with an extensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), branded as DiPilot or “God’s Eye”, which can include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist, and blind spot monitoring. Some newer models include a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor for enhanced autonomous driving capabilities.
