The BYD Han is a flagship luxury electric sedan designed to compete in the premium segment by blending high performance, luxury features, and advanced safety technology. It embodies BYD’s “Dragon Face” design philosophy, giving it a distinctive and elegant appearance.
Performance and Drivetrain
The Han is generally offered in both a rear-wheel-drive and an all-wheel-drive configuration, although the AWD version is most common in export markets.
- All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Model: This variant features dual motors (one on each axle) that produce a combined power of around 509 horsepower (380 kW) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. This powerful setup allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a rapid 3.9 seconds.
- Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) Model: This variant uses a single motor, producing around 245 horsepower (180 kW).
- Drivetrain: The electric all-wheel-drive system operates in real time, providing superb traction control in all weather conditions. Like other EVs, it uses a single-speed gearbox.
Range and Battery
The Han is equipped with BYD’s ultra-safe Blade Battery (Lithium Iron Phosphate, or LFP), which has a usable capacity of 85.4 kWh.
- Range: The official WLTP estimated range is around 323 miles (521 km). Real-world range estimates suggest drivers can expect around 295 miles (475 km) on a single charge in mixed conditions.
Design and Interior
The Han is a large executive sedan, measuring nearly 5 meters long, which translates to a very spacious and luxurious cabin, particularly in the rear seats.
- Exterior: The design is aerodynamic, featuring flush door handles, dynamic LED headlights, and the character “Han” (汉) badge instead of the BYD logo on the rear.
- Interior: The interior is built with premium materials, including Nappa leather seats, real wood panels, and aluminum accents.
- Technology Hub: The centerpiece is a large, rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Rear passengers also get a dedicated control screen in the center armrest to adjust climate, seating position, and ambient lighting.
Technology and Safety
The Han features a high level of standard equipment and top safety ratings.
- Safety Ratings: It has achieved a 5-star C-NCAP safety rating.
- ADAS: It comes with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and a 360-degree panoramic camera system.
- V2L: The vehicle supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing external devices to draw power from the car’s battery.
Charging
The Han supports efficient charging capabilities for an EV in its class.
- DC Fast Charging: It can charge at a maximum DC rate of up to 120 kW, allowing a charge from 30% to 80% in approximately 30-34 minutes.
- AC Home Charging: For home charging, the onboard charger has a maximum capacity of 6.6 kW (though some markets may offer 11 kW), meaning a full charge at home can take around 15 hours.
